My footage of white nationalists and counter-protesters clashing in Charlottesville on August 11 & 12.
On Friday, hundreds of white nationalists gathered to march to the Jefferson Statue at the University of Virginia. The following day they faced off against hundreds of counter-protesters at Emancipation Park, despite vigilant peacekeeping efforts by clergy members and religious activists. Although police were were present at Emancipation Park, they did not intervene when violence erupted. Instead, they cleared the park, forcing demonstrators to flood streets throughout the city (WARNING: Strong language & violence).
y footage of activists & residents speaking out after driving off 'Unite the Right' rally organizer Jason Kessler on Sunday, August 12 in Charlottesville.
Hundreds of counter-protesters disrupted a press conference for Kessler, forcing him to flee. He was quickly surrounded and protected by ranks of militarized police. Immediately after, activists and Charlottesville residents seized the opportunity to hold their own impromptu press conference on the downtown mall. They not only spoke on their experience of the terrorist attack, but they also addressed the systemic failures of capitalism for black and minority communities that enabled the attack to happen.
